Force India to have upgrades on both cars in Singapore GP

The Silverstone-based outfit is vying to defend its fourth position in the constructors' championship.

As the Formula 1 season heads to the business end, teams are taking a cautious approach on its existing cars, in a bid to put more effort on the 2018 machinery.

It is a race by race development, so as to strengthen its position during the particular weekend from its rivals. It is the same with Force India.

Team principal Vijay Mallya revealed that both of its VJM10 will carry upgrades during this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, as part of its plan.

"With seven races to go, the season is rushing by quickly and we just need to keep doing what we’ve been doing all year long," said Mallya.

"It’s about being consistent, picking up the points and taking our opportunities. We haven’t eased off.

"Development of the VJM10 continues and will bring benefits for the 2018 car too. We are still bringing new parts to the track and both cars will have developments this weekend.”

The Indian outfit sits a comfortable fourth in the standings with 113 points, as the next best team Williams is a further 58 behind.

The team has had a good run on the streets of Singapore, having scored in all the grand prixs barring the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Having achieved podium finishes in two street circuits in Monaco and Baku on the F1 calendar already, the Silverstone-based outfit will want to see itself in the Top 3 position, under the lights as well.

For Sergio Perez, it will be extending his points run in Singapore, as the Mexican has managed to score in all the six races he has competed in - but will want to improve on his best finish of seventh.

"Our objective is obviously to score points in Singapore and in all the races to follow. The season may be nearing an end, but there are still some very important races ahead of us and we want to make sure we do our best to stay fourth in the championship," he said.

Meanwhile, Esteban Ocon is hoping to use his experience from last year and extend his points run to 13 races in 2017 from the 14 he will compete in, on Sunday.

It is also a neck and neck fight in the drivers' championship, with Ocon bringing the gap down to just three points between the two in the fight for best of the rest.
