With ever growing touchscreens, virtual assistants, and artificial intelligence, cars are getting more and more like smartphones on wheels and that trend looks to be continuing with Ford‘s latest partnership.

Ford has announced that from 2023 some of its cars will be powered by Google’s Android operating system, and include features such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and even the Play Store. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, said “We’re proud to partner to apply the best of Google’s AI, data analytics, compute and cloud platforms to help transform Ford's business and build automotive technologies that keep people safe and connected on the road.”

Google Maps is certainly a welcome addition to any car, and should be a big improvement over most built in navigation systems, but do you really want your car to run on Android? And would you be willing to shout “Hey Google” at your car to change the radio station? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

  • All you want is to have that most leaky of operating systems that runs on out of date chip technology providing hackers inroads into your cars computer system! Now, access by an isolated system to give me on-line connectivity on the move... yup, sounds good, but that's hardly new, now is it!
