Ford F150 gets mad new technology and capabilities

Towing and hauling is getting an overhaul

5d ago

There's a saying that in the United States, you could throw a rock in any direction and you'll probably hit a Ford F150. - such is the popularity of the Blue Oval badged workhorse. But with the announcement of a brand new electric variant coming in future, Ford is doing everything they can to boost their 'Built Ford Tough' moniker by releasing some innovate new features from Summer of 2021.

Class-exclusive built-in payload estimation

Ever wonder just how much weight you're hauling? Ford has, and now you can use the new Onboard Scales to display the weight of the payload in your truck. This can be displayed both in the center touch screen of the infortainment system, or on a mobile device using the FordPass app. If you really want to flex on your Chevrolet-driving buddies, you can even display the information in the F150s smart tail lights.

Load trailers easily

“We’re constantly working to deliver a continuous history of capable, strong and smart trucks designed to make the F-150 customer even more productive. This summer we’re delivering three new features all about enhancing the F-150 customer experience while delivering even greater confidence when towing and hauling.”

Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager

Ford has made it easy to figure out perfect weight distribution when towing a trailer with their new Smart Hitch function. Smart Hitch makes towing safer and easier by measuring the tongue weight of the trailer being connected and provides instruction on balancing weight distribution. It will even provide guidance on properly tensioning a weight redistributing hitch.

Comfort and control with a smarter suspension

Continuously controlled dampening gives a smoother ride with a dedicated computer system collecting and analyzing suspension feedback, making real-time adjustments to suspension response via valves in each shock absorber. If the edge of a pothole is detected, the dampers are made firmer to prevent the wheel from dropping into the hole.

Onboard Scales, Smart Hitch, and Continuously Controlled Dampening is available via pre-order from June 2021 ahead of deliveries commencing in Summer.
