The wealth that’s required in order to afford a supercar can often imbue people with a great sense of immunity. Every problem that arrises is simply swallowed up by the wallet without it even noticing. But even when a person doesn’t have to put their hand in their pocket, problems bring about inconvenience, and that is something the rich aren’t accustomed to dealing with.

If, for instance, you were rich enough to have a Ford GT sitting in your climate controlled garage, you would expect the car to be at your beck and call. But thanks to a recall by Ford, nearly 200 GT owners have had to do without their precious cars.

The recall was issued in the US and Canada due to a hydraulic leak in the rear wing. Ford’s concern is that fluid could leak from the spoiler, and drip onto the nearby hot exhaust, causing a fire. When owners said they were interested in using their car for “hot laps”, I don’t think this is quite what they had in mind.

So far, Ford says one GT has been destroyed thanks to this issue. The GT in question was in Germany, and luckily, nobody was hurt during the incident. While Ford are currently limiting the recall to the American continent, European owners can expect the same in November.

Ford says that the affected cars were built between December the 6th 2016, and the 31st of July this year. In order to fix the problem, Ford will be installing new software to prevent the build up of pressure in the wing’s hydraulics. If required, some GTs will be fitted with new components. While it may be inconvenient for the owners, you have to take your hat off to Ford for dealing with it so wonderfully. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
