Ford Mustang Lithium: Electric, wild and American flavor
It is not the first electric Ford Mustang that we see but it is the most expensive and sophisticated of all and also arrives directly from the 2019 Sema Show, one of the most important motor events on the international scene.
It responds to the name of Ford Mustang Lithium and although the work undertaken in it by Webasto specialists - in collaboration with Ford - has been so intense that it looks like a factory model, it really isn't. The idea of both companies has been none other than to merge the best of two worlds for many antagonists: the fun and authentic character of the American pony car with the efficiency and ecology of the electric vehicle.
The Mustang with the most spark
Thus, Lithium transmits that personality of its own at the first glance. Its careful decoration includes a specific front grille, large multi-radius rims, brake calipers painted in blue, specific heels and fenders and especially a bonnet and a roof that instead of sporting the typical longitudinal bands of the Shelby, presents a unique screen printing, inspired by the electrical energy of its mechanics.
These blue accents on the base of black also stand out in the interior, personalized in detail to the point of incorporating a large vertical touch screen in the style of the latest Tesla. But if you have looked closely at the cabin of this Ford Mustang electric sure has caught even more attention another detail: the manual gear lever.
Well, yes, do not think that it has been cast there by mistake or that it is an assembly, is that this Mustang Lithium combines the typical Ford 6-speed Getrag box with the electric propeller and that it develops 912 horsepower and delivers a maximum torque of 1,356 Nm. Of course, its creators do not give more details about the operation of this mechanic beyond that it is able to bring all this force to the rear wheels directly. Fascinating.
Nor do we have many more details about the batteries of this Mustang, beyond the fact that they are of the lithium-ion type - honoring its name - and that they feed an 800-volt system.
Beyond his participation in this project, Ford plans to enlarge the Mustang legend and take advantage of its great pull both in the United States and in Europe, expanding its current range with an SUV variant and also with a hybrid. We will see if this Lithium does not inspire the brand enough to go one step further.
