Ford offers to rescue stricken Jeep Wrangler from a bike trail

A Bronco towing the most infamous Jeep Wrangler out of a tricky situation might just be the greatest photo-op in history

Ford's marketing department isn't exactly the epitome of groundbreaking advertising, but apparently, somebody over in Detroit has a bit of creative spirit.

Consequently, you may have heard the story of the world's most infamous Jeep Wrangler, which got stuck after an overzealous owner decided that he could get his car over a bike trail.

Well, that didn't exactly go to plan, as, expectedly, the off-roader got stuck with a sheer cliff on either side.

However, one Wrangler's plight is apparently another Bronco's opportunity as Ford reached out to the Jeep's owner with an offer to rescue the stricken vehicle.

The Wrangler's owner revealed earlier this week that Ford did indeed contact him after obtaining contact info through local authorities with an offer to rescue the Wrangler free of charge.

Now, while I'm sure that Ford's marketing department was drooling at the thought of getting a picture with the new Bronco towing its direct competitor out of a "tricky" situation, this was never explicitly said.

Apparently, Ford never told the owner that a Bronco would be used, as this might have seemed a bit too "opportunistic". However, it isn't hard to imagine that this would have been their course of action, given the opportunity.

As of a few days ago, the stricken Wrangler was rescued, not by a Bronco, but rather by a team of eager Jeeps and pickup trucks with winches and a helicopter.

    • Well I don't know about anything else but I definitely like the Ford Bronco better than any Jeep Wrangler (except maybe the upcoming V8 powered version). Jeeps Wranglers have horrible reliability and ride and steering and safety etc. etc....

    • Shh, dont tell that to either of my Wranglers. Oldest one doesn't know better and has gone 166K miles with little drama.

  • I want to see an ad where Ford and Jeep are bickering and a Land Rover Defender drives by with the driver shaking their head.

  • This report contains wild inaccuracies and Jeep misinformation: The Jeep only got stuck when the driver backed up in the dark along the cycle path in the dark, having first already crossed the ridge bicycle path with no issue. So this was the second time crossing, when because of poor driver visibility error, the Jeep was steered into danger loosing traction. The Helicopter played no part. A bunch of Jeep enthusiasts took the weight of the Wrangler to prevent it slipping off the ridge while another Wrangler winched it to safety.

The real story is about the community of Jeep brothers and sisters that made the rescue possible, with their Jeep grit and Jeep spunk and Jeep know how.

Ford is a Jerk I have cancelled my order. Buy Jeep and off road safe in the knowledge, Jeep bros/gals got your back.

    • All this because you couldn't accept the fact that there's a company that makes Jeep-like vehicles other than Jeep. it's like the whole Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge bull crap all over again.

    • Nah; does Ford have a body of like- minded enthusiasts willing to give up their time at a moments notice to perform such a rescue, to save a Bronco in such circumstances? Bronco has a long way to go onward from the consumer culture of buyers to...
