Ford releases Tremor off-road package for the Ranger

The earth is quaking with this new release, but can it shake off the Tacoma TRD Pro?!

'Tremors' was a 1990 horror-comedy film about massive subterranean worm-like creatures with a taste for human flesh. Several mysterious deaths are discovered by the protagonists and with the help of the heroine seismologist - and a looney survivalist with an 'elephant gun' - they defeat the tremor-creatures until the next seven movies?!

The film's hero's journey starts in the fictional town of 'Perfection, Nevada' where both are trying to skip town for bigger and better jobs in the neighboring town. The deaths are discovered, the heroine discoveres the unusual seismic readings, there are many brushes with death, people hide on roofs to escape the worms destroying the town, and ultimately the survivalists assist with killing the worm.

If you're still reading - or better yet you've decided to go watch 'Tremors' later today - I thought it was a little ironic Ford chose Tremor for their off-road package with all the similarities to our current dumpster-fire of 2020. Let's supplant the heros in 'Tremors' for the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. This being the best competitor for the Ranger Tremor it only makes sense.

The TRD Pro has been living in 'Perfection' yet yearning for bigger and better things - it's been dominating for years. Along comes the Ranger Tremor, making a serious effort to kill the Pro with it's desire for Toyota-flesh.

We are on the heels of a serious battle people! I can't wait to see the 'survivalists' of 2020 come out of the woodwork (I'm probably one of them) to aid the TRD Pro with additional sales and zealous passion for the plucky Toyota. We're one super-powered rifle round and some explosives away from sending the Tremor into oblivion - temporarily of course as we have SEVEN more sequels still yet to experience.

Okay, I'm done now. I swear. For the six of you still reading, Ford is making a legitimate attempt to dethrone the King of mid-sized off-roading. This new Tremor package is the real deal; FOX 2.0 dampers, increased approach/departure/breakover, an electronic rear-diff, and sophisticated off-road nannies Terrain Management System™ and Trail Control™.

If any of these options sounds familiar, it is because it is. This package is similar to those offered with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Both trucks are closely matched in power with the Ecoboost Ranger at 270hp/310tq and 2GR-FKS V-6 Tacoma at 278hp/265tq. Where you'll get a better deal is definately with the Ford. The Tremor package is a mere $4,290 on top of the supercrew mid XLT or high Lariat packages.

Will the Tremor dethrone the hero TRD Pro? I doubt it, we've seen this movie before. We will know for sure when the Tremor package is released for 2021.

  • You can get a taco with a manual. No turbo business to mess with reliability when it’s 25 years old. I have owned the older ranger, but if I needed a truck, it would be a Tacoma, not a trd, but was basic a trim as i could get and stick.

    • I told myself the same thing, then I talked myself into the Tacoma with plenty of bells and whistles. I convinced myself it won’t break because it’s a Toyota. That’s not completely sound advice, but it worked to get me to sign the paperwork....

    • You done went and did it. You're gonna cause the pearl clutching girly men to get the vapors by inferring modern men are not men.

It sucks to be you......yep. The mob will be sent to set you right.

  • But it still won't make them a serious contender because the GMC Canyon AT4/Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison has a turbodiesel and/or V6, Jeep Gladiator Rubicon has a V6 and soon to be turbodiesel, Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro has a V6. They all have real engines.

    • The turbo-four from Ford makes some good numbers - but I know what you mean. I wish Toyota would offer a diesel...

    • They may make good numbers, but the true off-road enthusiast isn't gonna settle for a four banger. We want engines proven to work in extreme conditions. Not on the way to the grocery store.
