Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 fetches £115k at auction

If you're a fast Ford enthusiast with plenty of disposable cash, you may kick yourself for missing out on this

Among the offerings at the recent 2017 Silverstone Classic Sale was this remarkable 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, which had covered just 10,733 miles.

The appeal of its low mileage was reflected in its sale price, with the car bringing in a massive £114,750. That, no doubt much to the delight of the seller and the auction house, was £24,750 above the lower estimate.

Silverstone Auctions said the car had "enjoyed a very quiet life for the last 26 years," and that it had been recently recommissioned by Cosworth specialist John Taylor.

Guy Lees-Milne, general manager of Silverstone Auctions, said the Sierra Cosworth RS500 was a "true collectors' item" and that this particular car could be "the lowest mileage example in existence."

Could you, however, bring yourself to pay so much for an RS500? Have your say in the comments below.

  • The car world has officially gone mad!! Most half decent of desirable cars are now out of the reach of most people... I hoped that as my kids get older I may be able to pick up something like a 996 C4S for the same as maybe a nearly new hot hatch, but even their values are starting to rise!
