Ford's all electric F-150 is coming – and it may be here sooner than you think

In case you missed the publicity stunt a few months ago, Ford decided to pull 1 million pounds with an all electric F-150 prototype. Publicity stunt or not, it was seriously impressive.

Now, we all know an electric Ford F-150 is coming to market. Ford confirmed that with the above stunt. Not only that, but we as enthusiasts can see the writing on the wall here. Electric is coming and it's going to stay. The biggest question is when? And we may now have our answer.

Reports are saying that 2021 is the target year for the no-emissions truck. Whether that is model year or physical year (since MY never matches that), we won't know until the truck actually comes to market.

Car & Driver has the details:

"The latest indicator comes from Ted Cannis, Ford's global director for electrification, who said in a recent interview with Automotive News Canada that the electric F-150 will follow the Mach E, a Mustang-inspired electric crossover that is going to be introduced in 2020. The electric truck is supposed to follow 'as soon as a year later,' which takes us to the 2021 date. All a Ford spokesperson would tell Car and Driver is that the all-electric F-150 will arrive 'in a few years' and that we will have to keep waiting for an announcement about specific timing."

In my extremely un-scientific opinion, Ford doesn't really need to wait on this. Electric vehicles have never been more in demand, hotter in the news, and polarizing than right now. Coming out with a truck that has no internal combustion before anyone else does should make them the market leader in electrics in no time. Yes, even above Tesla. Finances aside, this would likely be a massive win for Ford.

Oh and food for thought here, the F-150 has been the best selling vehicle in the country for over 30 years. If there's ANY vehicle that will make an impact for electric being mass adopted, it's the F-150. Prove me wrong.
