It has been reported that Antonia Terzi, who used to work for the likes of Ferrari, Williams and Bentley, has died today in a car crash within the UK.

She was born in Italy in 1971 but a lot of her childhood was spent in the UK. After she had studied aerodynamics at university she went to work at Ferrari under Rory Byrne until 2001 when Williams hired her as chief aerodynamicist.

Her most famous work was the 'Walrus nose' Williams FW26 of 2004. The idea was to reduce drag and increase downforce but it made the car a handful so the team reverted to a more conventional design mid-season. At the end of the year she left F1 and has since served as head of aerodynamics for Bentley and at the Delft university of technology in Holland she was an assistant professor.

Another piece of work that she was well-known for was the Superbus. I was an all-electric bus with gullwing doors and seating for 23. Some of you might recognise this from the Abu Dhabi episode within Season 1 of The Grand Tour.

She was also due to become a professor at Canberra University in Australia but first COVID and now the recent c4ash means that will never happen.

Antonia Terzi: 29 April 1971-1 November 2021
