Formula Drift Round 1 and 2 recap
Aasbo takes the top spot in Round 1 while DeNofa takes Round 2.
It has been sometime since Formula Drift has been able to hold an event. Usually this is around the time we normally have the last round of a FD season, but with the current times it was the first competition weekend.
Fredric Aasbo took the Saturday round of competition, Round 1, in his brand new Mk5 Toyota GR Supra Papadakis Racing drift car. His Papadakis Racing teammate Ryan Tuerck took second place. Third place was held by Aurimas "Odi" Bakchis. Chris Forsberg rounded out the Top 4.
Of the 29 competitors who attended the event, 8 of them were rookies. Alec Robbins was the best performing rookie by taking the 16th spot.
Sunday's Round 2 was not as friendly to Aasbo as he got knocked out of competition in Top 16 by Matt Field. Field went on to make the Top 4 and finished 4th. For Round 2, Chelsea DeNofa turned it up to 11 and took the top spot, while Bakchis and Tuerck took 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Snagging a pair of podiums for the weekend should sure put smiles on Bakchis and Tuerck's faces as they are currently tied for points sitting in the top spot in the 2020 Formula Drift Championship standings with 164 points each. DeNofa and Aasbo are tied for next in line with 132 points each.
The next Formula Drift weekend for Round 3 and 4 of the FD season will occur Sept 25-27 at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington.
