Forty 3rd: The Grueling Safari Rally Part 1
The little car that could
Welcome to Forty 3rd where I showcase models within the 1/43 range and smaller and sometimes bigger. If you have never heard of the Safari Rally aka East African Safari Rally, it is a rally race held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika and is one of the most difficult race due to arduous conditions, such as the constantly changing weather and the very rough roads often rife with sharp rocks and made life very difficult for the team participating in this race.
I've been a Bluebird collector and seeing the Safari Rally livery while browsing the website peak my interested in collecting this livery as well. Hot Wheels and TLV had also released this livery in 1/64 and let's not forget that M2 also came up with one when they joined the JDM bandwagon. And this started my goal in building this diorama to represent the East African Rally or any other rough terrain which took weeks in which I consider this my labor of love.
If you noticed I did said Datsun Bluebird and for most people this model is not the first thing that comes to your mind yet it started with the 2nd generation Bluebird 1300SS (DP411) which won the 14th East-African Safari Rally in 1966 and contributed to improving the image of Nissan sports cars.
Well it's time to take a break.
Even though this model came in acrylic display case, there is no brand listed and is sealed in a blister pack like package. Yet I consider this model worthy enough to be displayed.
