Forza 7 developer wants to clamp down on livery thieves
Exploit that lets players unlock and save a custom livery being investigated by Turn 10, but why has it taken so long?
Imagine having the skills to create an impressive custom livery for your favourite digital car and the time to make it a reality. Now imagine it being stolen by another player who then pretends it is their own and sells it ─ not much fun, eh?
No wonder, then, that Forza Motorsport 7 developer Turn 10 has finnally announced it is looking into an exploit that lets unscrupulous (and lazy) players do exactly that.
Speaking via the Forza Support Twitter, the Forza 7 developer said: "The team is currently investigating an exploit in Forza 7 that allows player-created liveries to be unlocked and saved by players other than the creator. Stay tuned for more information as we have it."
Exactly why Turn 10 is now taking action is unclear, although it could be down to the fact that some players have taken matters into their own hands by removing all their custom liveries from the game.
The issue of copying liveries has actually been an issue for the Forza series for a number of years, but it seems the latest game in the series makes life easier. Easier than busting out the tracing paper and painstakingly copying each element, anyway.
Tackling livery theft seems to be going down well. One player commented: "Good to hear. I don't want to see these guys not continue to show their talent. I'm very fond of checking out the best paint jobs for my cars in game."
Some, meanwhile, have noted there are bigger problems for the Forza 7 team to rectify, but then keeping the community happy is vital and those who create these bespoke paintjobs are often as committed as the racers who invest hours into setting the world's fastest lap times.
For now, anyone who sees their custom livery being used by another player can report them and hope it is taken down. Hopefully whatever Turn 10's solution turns out to be will be more effective.
While we are nattering on about the Forza games, it appears Forza Horizon 4 will be unveiled at E3. More details this way.
