Forza Horizon 4 is the best-selling Xbox racing game of all time
We had a sneaking suspicion Forza Horizon 4 would be a big hit, having earned itself very high ratings from most publications (including DriveTribe). But now it is official.
Forza Horizon 4 can boast having "the highest launch month sales in franchise history," according to US video games analyst, Mat Pisctella, of the NPD Group.
Not only that, the Xbox exclusive also "had the strongest debut of any racing game on an Xbox platform," the analyst also stated in his Twitter post.
Forza Horizon 4 also became the seventh best-selling game in September in the US, which is impressive considering that the figures exclude Xbox Xbox Game Pass usage and that only the expensive Ultimate Edition was released in that month on the 28th ─ the two other versions arrived on the 2nd of October.
To put that into perspective, Forza Horizon 4 managed to outsell Project Gotham Racing, Need for Speed, Project Cars and every other major racing game franchise on Microsoft's three consoles, the first of which arrived in 2001.
Although it is yet to be officially announced, it appears adding Forza Horizon 4 to the monthly subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, has had little effect on actual sales. If anything, it appears to have actually helped them.
As of the 5th of October, Forza Horizon 4 saw more than two million players give the game a go. Between them, they covered 822.7million digital miles. Gran Turismo, meanwhile, hit 5.5 million players in nine months.
We found the Britain-based racer to be excellent and despite some teething issues ─ the sometimes ridiculous AI and online racing issues, mainly ─ most of us are still glued to it. When not pretending to be a badass cowboy in Red Dead Redemption, that is.
With numerous cars having been added since launch via the Car Pass and those ever-changing seasons and challenges, we doubt the momentum will wane much going towards Christmas, especially as a reasonably meaty update is looming.
