Forza Horizon 4 leaves F1 2018 behind at Gamescom
As far as racing games go, the judges at Gamescom 2018 have voted in favour of the Britain-based racer from Playground Games.
Gamescom 2018 has been particularly fruitful for racing games, with both F1 2018 and Forza Horizon 4 doing their thing among many other titles. But which is better?
According to the judges at the video game show, the answer would be Forza Horizon 4, as it was given an award for "Best Racing Game" at the show, beating both F1 2018 and Team Sonic Racing.
Sonic Racers being the latest kart-based Mario Kart wannabe from Sega, although without the transforming vehicle element on the last game, while F1 2018 is the latest in the series from Codemasters and comes with a more in-depth career mode.
Unfortunately for Forza Horizon 4, it missed out on the elegantly titled "Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox One" award. That accolade went to the visually impressive platformer, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which is the sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest.
F1 2018 also lost out on two other awards, including "Best Sports Game" (won by FIFA 19) and "Best Simulation" (won by Farming Simulator 19), despite the developer's best efforts.
So should you avoid F1 2018? Potentially, no. You are better off reading the official DriveTribe review and making up your own mind because the Gamescom awards are, to be brutally honest, somewhat flawed.
In our F1 2018 verdict, we said: "It’s not a great leap from 2017 in terms of game dynamics but for the extras that accompany it, it’s very much worth dipping back in."
F1 2018 launches on the 26th of August, while Forza Horizon 4 arrives on the 2nd of October, or on the 28th of September if you buy the glitziest (and therefore most expensive) version.
