French GT4: Rabindra/Vannelet end 2020 season with double Top 10 in class
The Indo-French pair also ended up inside the Top 10 in the drivers' standings.
Akhil Rabindra continued his French GT4 Championship campaign with AGS Events Racing abode the #69 Aston Martin Vantage AMR in Round 5 - the final of the 2020 season - at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, in the Pro-Am category with teammate Gilles Vannelet.
The duo started the day-night weekend finishing 19th and 10th in the two practice sessions, where they were 12th and sixth respectively in the Pro-Am category. The Qualifying 1, meanwhile, saw Vannelet end up 14th overall and sixth in Pro-Am class.
At the same time, Qualifying 2 had Rabindra end up 21st overall and 13th in Pro-Am category after damage to his front splitter. The Race 1 in dark saw a steady start from Vannelet but an eventual spin saw them drop outside the Top 20 in the opening stages.
It was then a fightback as both Vannelet and Rabindra managed to claw back to 14th overall and ninth in Pro-Am class. The afternoon Race 2 saw a good start from Rabindra as he made inside the Top 20 in early stages of the one-hour race.
It was a steady fightback to 10th overall and sixth in Pro-Am class to finish the 2020 season. Overall, the Indo-French pair finished ninth in the Pro-Am standings with 59 points as Rabindra had a learning season, especially with the language barrier.
With COVID-19 restrictions, they couldn't have a fluent English speaker engineer, which hindered some of the Indian's progress. On the teams' side, AGS Events did a solid job to still clinch the Pro-Am championship with a total of 203 points.
The team had a mixed run in the penultimate round with the sole Top 10 finish.
