Genesis JW electric crossover spotted testing
Scheduled to debut later this year
Genesis, luxury division of Hyundai, has been teasing a series of electric concept cars for a very long time now and this is the first model they're planning to reveal and put into production in the upcoming months. Drivetribe spies managed to take pictures of this mule as it was being tested in the wild, and this is what it looks like.
Code-named the 'JW EV' , the car is reportedly scheduled to be unveiled to the general public in late 2021 and it is quite obviously yet another crossover SUV (duh). It's based on a dedicated EV platform that both Hyundai and Kia are going to be using for their future models, including the Hyundai Ioniq hatch.
The E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) has been designed to accommodate an 800-volt infrastructure, so we can expect a range of at least 200-300 miles and 80% of the charge in around 20 minutes. Genesis is technically available worldwide but they're mostly active in North America, which means the JW will probably be built with the US market in mind, potentially going up against cars like the BMW iX3 or the Audi eTron, with a slightly more interesting and unusual design language and possibly a lower price tag. We'll see.
