The interiors seem to have been inspired by the Jaguar F-Type.

The mid-sized luxobarge segment has for years been dominated by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6. There was one car that was always slammed with the word, “underdog.” That was the XF. First debuted in the year 2007, the car is in its second generation now. As the wraps were taken off the car way back in 2015, Jaguar purists and the brand knew they had to twiddle with the design to impart a semblance that it is relevant in the fast-changing neoteric times.

Straight off, the changes are minimalistic on the exterior. The only salient features of this update are the LED lights that have been tweaked to become stubbier and the grille which gets diamond appliques with chrome slivers surrounding the silhouette for a regal look. In case you yearn for something sportier, Jaguar also offers black garnish on the grille and air intakes. The update also encapsulates 19” 5-spoke wheels in either silver or glossy black or 20-inchers in satin or glossy black.

The changes made to the interior are far more prevalent than those with the exterior. The biggest hallmark of the XF is its 11.4” High-Definition touchscreen. An all-new Pivi-Pro infotainment system serves as the keystone for the screen promising haptic touch response. Needless to say, it comes with connected car features of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates and 360-degree view cameras. In the higher models, customers can also avail a fully digital instrument binnacle. In case you had a repugnance for the erstwhile rotary knob for the gear selector, you will be happy to note that the conventional gear stick makes its appearance back in the XF.

As for the powertrain options, the XF gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 246 hp which is channeled to the rear wheels and a 296 hp 2.0-litre engine which sends power to all the wheels. While the former propels the car from nought to sixty miles an hour in 6.5 seconds, the latter does it in a blisteringly fast 5.8 seconds.

The key factor determining the success of the XF is its pricing which will decide whether it will continue to get overlooked further or will it finally have the potential to steal a solid slice of the pie, which is exactly what Jaguar needs and is aiming at.
