Lancia's only F1 car was the D50 - metaphorically 'launched' in 1954, it was literally launched in Monaco the following year when Alberto Ascari broke though the barriers by the chicane and shot into the Med. He survived, but died soon after at Monza in a sports car race. After only a couple of race wins, Lancia's F1 operation was wrapped up with all assets transferred to Ferrari, leading to Fangio's World Championship win in 1956.
