Getting to know my new Aprilia RSV Mille R Haga

One of my favorite parts of getting a new motorcycle is the first service and learning more about the details.

A couple of weeks ago my shipper got here with my new Aprilia. This is the first time I have owned an Aprilia. These have been on my radar for a while and had even tried to convince some of you guys to go out and buy one. In the end I took my own advice and pulled the trigger. This example is a 2003 Haga. It is one of 300 made to celebrate Aprilia's world superbike racing performance.

The bike came to me from the original owner with a bin full of extras and the little items we all collect over the years. As with anything I buy, I end up spending some time in the garage going over the details. Some times just doing a basic service, other times correcting little things I find.

These bikes are dripping with top tier parts from the era. OZ wheels, carbon fiber fender, Brembo 4 puck calipers and Ohlins fully adjustable forks round out the front end.

Pulled most of the body work off for a deep clean and inspection of everything underneath. Happy to report that there were zero issues hiding.

Found a hilarious sticker on a rubber cover. It was if they were begging you to modify the ECU. To be fair this bike did come from the factory with a full Akrapovic exhaust and EPROM chip. I would assume that every single bike purchased has these parts fitted before leaving the dealer even though they were labeled "off road use only".

This bike lived a pampered life, so it is in excellent condition. Very happy with how it cleaned up.

Installed some new Michelin Power GP tires and some EBC pads. Oil was just changed before the bike came to me.

Ignore that Dunlop sponsor sticker....

Placed an order for some OEM service items and a couple of pieces of OEM hardware to replace some missing items.

I reinstalled the factory license plate bracket. There was an aftermarket one on the bike. Typical modification as the factory item is rather large, but I just loved how original the rest of the bike was. Figured it was better to keep it factory at this point. I even reinstalled those funny red reflectors. Never seen that on a bike before. The bike came with all these parts anyway.

Having a little fun with a vanity plate.

Next on the list is to swap out the aftermarket Hellibars for the OEM ones, and do a major service to the motor.

  • Nice Aquisition! Can’t wait to hear what you think after you have a chance to get it out and ring it’s neck a bit. Congrats!

  • I don’t know too much about motorbikes but that’s a nice livery you have.

  • Them wheels are drop dead gorgeous. Liked them back in the day and they have held their attraction over time
