GOLFING,WITH PINK FLOYD IN LANZAROTE
#VW #Golf #PinkFloyd
Motoring journalists test all manner of Cars every week.
Us mere mortals are not so lucky unless we become serial test drivers conning car dealers into believing that we want to buy their wares when all we want to do is post reports on DRIVETRIBE!
Our motoring compasses are therefore more limited and we can only judge the Cars we drive from our own limited experiences!
One chance we do get to test is when we rent cars on holiday.
A week under the Lanzarote sun gave the opportunity to drive a modern VW Golf. Bluemotion DSG.
It came in a fetching grey colour.
I soon realised that this was to hide the dust.
There are roads in Lanzarote which are nothing more than glorified dirt tracks .
I have previous experiences of Golfs.
My mum passed on her Mark 2 1.6CL to me.
It was an 87 model with the build quality of my father’s Mercedes combined with sturdiness and refinement .
I also owned a Mark 3 eight valve Gti in the 90’s.
The thing that struck me is how much the Golf has grown in size.
It has developed a lot of middle aged spread and has morphed from a simple small family hatchback into a large family hatchback .
In fact their were times when I felt it was too big for the single track roads of Lanzarote.
However, I grew to like and admire it over the five days it acted as family transport.
It carried all our luggage to and from the airport as well as conveying the kids in comfort.
It was refined although it could get a bit gruff when accelerating.
The stereo was excellent as was the parking camera.
It was also parsimonious sipping 22litres of fuel over 250km of driving.
The handling was dependable but not fun.
At the end of five days I have been left with the urge to test drive a new Gti .
The reference to Pink Floyd is accurate but a little misleading.
On our last night we had our dinner in an Italian restaurant,by a Marina, where a Pink Floyd tribute band called “The Floydians “ were playing .
They featured Scott Page,a saxophonist who played on “A momentary lapse of reason” .
They were rather good and I attach a link to their Facebook page which contains clips from their concerts in Lanzarote.
The last picture is of “The Pink Floyd” pizza served to mark the occasion!

Beautiful combo! Floyd and Golfs.
I remember the stones one!
👍🏻
Does anyone remember the Pink Floyd Division Bell tour? Well I went to see them at Earl’s Court maybe 92/93 and I’m pretty sure that there was a tie up between Floyd and VW with a limited edition Pink Floyd Golf and maybe even a Rolling Stones one too! But it was a Floyd concert and there were many joints smoked so maybe I imagined it 🤪
