Goodwood FOS 2017
Another superb day spent watching all types of cars and motorcycles roar up the famous hill on the Goodwood estate in West Sussex.
Today the sun came out and so did the smiles. Thousands of happy car enthusiasts, young and old, male and female enjoying cars from days gone by, to cars of the future.
Classics like these Rolls Royces. Luxury from the beginning of motoring.
Then there are modern concept cars and hypercars that will be classics in many years time.
The new Jaguar I pace EV car above, the company’s first EV vehicle.
Aston Martin Lagonda’s hypercar the Valkryie.
In collaboration with Red Bull racing, Aston Martin have developed a stunning vehicle bringing formula one technology to the roads.
Since the model was announced it has caused such a stir from enthusiasts that it already sold out before production was started.
I can not wait to see it being driven hard or even slow, I just love the look of it.
Maybe if I am very good I might get a drive in one. Pretty please Andy.
Anyway back to my day at FOS.
I arrived at The event in a rather unusual way today. Normally I would get on the road about 5am and drive in to the car park before the roads get too busy, or I would ride my KTM motorbike to beat the congestion.
Not this time, as I was invited by Mercedes Benz PR to enjoy an off road taxi journey to the event.
I turned up at a field in deepest West Sussex and was met by an old friend, Piers Ward. After catching up with him, I was treated to a lovely coffee and various pastries. Then shown to a Mercedes G Wagon for a forty minute cross country trip to the hill circuit.
Taking in some superb views the journey was great fun as we went down barely useable tracks. The G wagon performed great and myself and fellow passengers were dropped at Mercedes hospitality right by the start line.
From the Start line I made my way to Goodwood Media centre for breakfast, and the hourly process of charging my phone. Coffee, food and phone charged I headed off to again explore the stands, paddocks and auction room.
I tried to meet up with some people I have connnected with on Twitter, automotive PRs, press and other bloggers but the event is so busy that I only managed to make one tweetup. I believe that is the right term.
Charlotte Ward from Ford UK Press met me in the Hill Pavilion situated close to the start line.
We had a lovely chat, I tried to persuade her to buy a KTM 690 SuperDuke as she is a new biker.
This Mustang is one of Charlotte’s favourite cars.
This Mustang is one of Charlotte’s favourite cars.
All too soon We had to part as schedules required Charlotte to host Ford execs at lunch. The meeting proved successful and I hope to be able to review some Ford cars soon. Also to meet up with Charlotte again. Probably for a trip on our bikes.
I went from Ford hospitality to Bonhams auction to admire the stunning vehicles for sale.
This Porsche 356 being one of the examples of the gorgeous gathering in the auction. I heard it fetched £900k.
This beautiful Mercedes made approx £800k
Sadly my budget meant I could only bid on these vehicles.
I ended my visit with a return, off road ride back to where I had left my motorbike. The lovely ladies from Mercedes offered me refreshments and I enjoyed a tea, before departing home.
A great end to A great day at Goodwood FOS 2017
Next year I might get a drive up the Hill.
