Grand Tour Nation's New Project Car - Lexus IS200

1y ago

So this is the scenario. I've managed to get my hands on a 2004 Lexus IS200. It's been my daily driver for about a year now where I've used and abused it, and it was great as a car that woud get me from A to B.

Now however, it's getting a bit boring, and I only have room for two cars outside my house so a third car (alongside the Lexus and my girlfriend's) isn't an option. I also don't want to get a new car. I love this car, and I'd rather make something of it than start from new.

So here's the deal - I don't want a stripped out track car. Like I said, I daily drive this, so what I'm looking for is to update it in terms of both technology, comfort, and performance - a car I could drive to and from the track in a good level of comfort. And this is what I want your help with.

But bear in mind, I'm doing all of this myself and with friends, and we are far from mechanics or engineers!

Let's start with the interesting bit. I'm thinking of a performance level similar to the BMW M3 of its time. So this involves doubling the current 153hp to around 300. Whether this involves an engine swap is yet to be seen, but this power is certainly attainable. The suspension also needs a seeing to, as does the clutch, exhaust, and other smaller bits such as bushings etc.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind a bodykit at some point. I have my eyes on the BTCC bodykit shown below.

I want to bring the Is200 to the modern day, so will be looking at things such as keyless go, wireless phone charging, and an updated media system/speakers. Nothing crazy like speakers in the boot, though. I may even try to integrate an Ipad into the dash for music, a satnav, etc.

Anyone know how difficult it is to tint windows? I do, because I tried it for the next VLOG. There's a reason why it isn't out yet - I can't do it. But this is the kind of stuff I'm thinking. Tinted windows in the rear, leather repair all over, maybe even a different colour. This basically involves anything that would make my journey a more comfortable one. It's up to you to decide what that covers.

Let me know your thoughts!

Yes, it's going to be difficult, and yes, I could buy another car. But I don't want to. I like a challenge and this is certainly that. So please tell me what you want to see.

Is there something you want to do to your car but don't know how to and want to watch someone else cock up first?

Let me know what you think I should do in the comments!
