Grosjean survives a terrible crash in the Bahrain Grand Prix

The outcome could have been fatal

8w ago

French racer Romain Grosjean has been victim of a terrible accident that happened a few moments after the start of the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. It was at the exit of the second corner of the circuit that his Formula 1 car came into contact with that of the Russian Daniil Kyvat.

The French was then thrown off the track against a wall that cut his car in half. His vehicle then quickly caught fire and the race was interrupted. He managed to get out of the machine rapidly.

His hands and ankles were burned, which is not much considering the violence of the impact. Grosjean will also have inhaled for a few seconds the toxic fumes emitted by the car.

The driver was fortunate to have been conscious after the accident so that he could quickly extricate himself from the vehicle, otherwise the consequences could have been much more serious.

  • You always hear people complaining about how F1 is too safe nowadays, and how it makes it "boring". This is why. It could've ended much much worse.

  • So glad that Romain is alright. God bless him and may he make a speedy recovery. As much as he gets bashed by drivers and fans, he is a good man. And no driver should ever have to go through a crash like that. 🙏

  • Romain Grosjean and Ryan Newman would be friends

  • That is why they talk about safety all the time. There were already Lauda, Senna, Bianchi, Hubert and all those who got seriously injured or died because of the lack of these protections. Grosjean's crash proved the correctness of this bureaucracy.

  • I'm astonished and relieved that Romain survived that. Regrettably, I've seen Grands Prix where there has been Fatalities. The dreadful '94 San Marino GP at Imola being the first. I really thought this was another one. Especially where they weren't showing the aftermath of the incident.

My hands have just about stopped shaking, so heaven only knows what effect this incident had on the community.
