GT-R50 video proves the art of hand-building cars is alive and well

They don’t make ‘em like they used to? Oh yes they do.

It was clear from the very first time we clapped eyes on the Italdesign GT-R50 that it was a seriously special car. Combining futuristic styling with unmistakably GT-R design cues, it was an instant hit.

In fact, the GT-R50 was so well-received by the motoring world that there are now increasing whispers of it actually going into production - no doubt in very small numbers and with a very large price tag. A cool million is the eye-watering figure being tossed around. Ouch.

But before you scoff at the ridiculousness of that number, watch this video. It documents the GT-R50 being built and reveals the jaw-dropping amount of love and labour that went into its creation. Italdesign do things the old fashioned way - with sheets of metal and hammers. It's a dying art in our modern age of automation and it's absolutely mesmerising to watch.

  • I can appreciate it being hand built but a GTR will never be worth £1,000,000

  • That design is disgusting. This is what happens when people try too hard to be "innovative".

    • if nobody never tried new things this would be a very boring and ugly world... i like this design more then most new super and hypercars.

For me it shouts power with a hint of elegance. the perfect combination for my taste. and probably alot...

  • I think the unfinished version in white looked cooler than the finished one 😅

  • Being a huge GTR fan I love the way the car drives and once the turbo's hit the acceleration is unbelievable. The exterior styling is iconic and people will stop you to take a photo with the car. This updated design is a little much. It takes away from the iconic style and the price is insane. Not worth the million. If your going to spend that much, just buy a Porsche GT3 RS and a Nismo GT-R and your garage will be complete.
