Hammond once ditched his Porsche 911 to run 16 miles home for his daughter's birthday
He was stuck in traffic at 3am and it was the only way he could get back in time
Back in 2007, Richard Hammond decided to abandon his Porsche 911 which was stuck in traffic to run 16 miles home to make it in time for his daughter's 4th birthday.
He was trying to get back home after a busy day at work but was caught in traffic 16 miles from his home due to flooding.
After a 12-hour journey, Hammond decided to abandoned his 997 911 Carrera in Cheltenham at around 3am on Saturday morning and ran back home.
"There was no way I was going to miss it - I'm away from home enough as it is," he said.
"Luckily I had my running gear and a waterproof jacket with me in the car, so I decided to run the rest of the way. It was pitch black but I just put my iPod on and went."
Luckily, he arrived back home at 5:30am to meet his wife Mindy and daughter so they could spend the day together for her 4th birthday. Once he got home, Hammond said, "I had a hot shower and a bacon buttie and not long after that Willow got up and we had a lovely time for her birthday."
