This is one of the prototypes that Mercedes has been testing and it anticipates the arrival of the EQE SUV which, just like the EQS SUV, shares the name with a sedan but it isn't a sedan. It's getting confusing.
Mercedes launched the EQC a few years ago. It was a relatively small, relatively compact mid-size SUV that rivals the Audi Q3 or the BMW X3 but then they began building a line-up, which consists of traditional nameplates like 'E' and 'S', associated with the 'EQ' nameplate, identifying these vehicles as electric cars.
That's fair enough but now they're building a parallel line-up of cars for the existing parallel line-up, which means you've got the E-Class, which is a sedan, the EQE, which is an electric version of said sedan, and then the EQE SUV, which is an SUV. It's a bit of a headache, isn't it? And all of these cars look a bit... underwhelming.
I'm not sure I understand Mercedes' design language at this point, the EQS, first example, isn't exactly spectacular and this EQE SUV already doesn't look great either. I know I shouldn't say that because it's wearing the traditional test mule camo wrap, but still, wouldn't you agree?

Has Mercedes lost its touch? @tribe
Yes because just like Cadillac they are no longer hand built anymore
I’ve seen worse. Seem like their is only so much you can do with the styling of a suv. Lexus, Nissan and Audi have already capitalized on a few good styles.
you have a point. And you know taste is, by definition, personal. But these Mercedes SUVs are uglier than any of their rivals, at least in my opinion. Except maybe for BMW and those weird grilles
The bigger grill movement is a no from me. Lexus IS probably doing best at it but I’m still a 👎.
I like Mercedes’ and almost bought a GLA 250 this year. Would have if the maintenance was not so expensive. I kid you not, I bought a XLE Camry instead...
