- Hat Yao is a remote fishing village in southern Thailand which is home to around 200 friendly Muslim folk, a few cheery geckos and about half a million crabs. Here's the 'Vette parked on the village's 4 mile-long deserted beach. - I spontaneously dropped by while driving across Thailand and decided to hang around. My days there were spent writing, bouldering on the beach, reading, watching crabs play in the surf and chatting with the locals, who were obeying Ramadan. - Every afternoon, life in the village seemed to revolve around landing the day's catch. - Lonely planet dismiss Hat Yao as a 'scruffy fishing village' with little to see, while waxing lyrical about the worn out predictable 'gap yaar' tourist traps to the north.
Just for once, Lonely planet is missing the whole point of travel... - An amazing car, a deserted beach and a fascinating culture, far from the tourist trail.
Moments like this are what make road tripping simply the best way to experience the world. - Undeveloped rock climbing on the beach. - Sunset on the beach just to the north of Hat Yao. Just me, a Corvette and the raw power of nature.
Simply blissful! - When I tried to leave, I found that heavy rains further inland had caused the road to be washed away. It was almost like the world was trying to make me stay in this tiny slice of paradise... A photo-diary of several days spent exploring Hat Yao in Thailand, in the V8Nam Corvette.

Not to be confused with Hat Yai........best known for the 'ping pong massage'!
It's a lovely spot, but the main attraction came from the fact there was virtually nothing there. Coming down the coast from Krabi, that fact made it feel positively blissful.
We always drive to Thailand from Malaysia but have not gone to Hat Yao yet. Might try this place soon.
