Anyone over a certain age will have squarely sat in one of two camps when they were a teenager, either Peugeot 205 GTI or Renault 5 GT Turbo, personally I was a Peugeot man (boy), perhaps backing up CAR Magazine’s decision to declare it ‘car of the decade’ in 1990. However, many of my friends were ‘5-guys’ (before the burger chain coined the phrase) and wouldn’t hear a bad word against the Renault option in the ‘Hot-Hatch’ debate.
Both were iconic at their time and most probably the closest any of us got to owning a Lancia Delta S4, which was what we all wanted!
However, this year Renault are at it again, appealing to the teenager and the teenager inside us with the new Limited-run Renault Clio RS, autocar says “Based on the 220 Trophy, the RS 18 uses the same turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, producing 217bhp and 207lb ft of torque. Drive is sent through the same six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, but it is said to have 50% quicker responses than the normal RS Clio's.
Straight-line performance remains unchanged, with a 0-62mph time of 6.6sec and a top speed of 146mph.” The petrol-headed teenager inside of me says “ Yes Please”.
For those of us though that have now grown up, have proper jobs but still want to be inspired behind the wheel, Renault have a treat instore….The Alpine A110, which promises to give Porsche a run for its money, but more importantly looks absolutely awesome and apparently according to motor press IS something to write home about with autocar saying “five star verdicts are rare; cars that achieve one need to be truly special. All of our road testers were in agreement that the Alpine A110 is just that."
So after years in the doldrums of less-than-inspiring ‘get-you-there’ cars have Renault done enough to make the kid in us sing or sign up?

When it comes to cars, a lot of us are still 9. I think that has been said before, I know I have been called that by passengers, to many times.
