Lotus have begun the intense testing and development of the Evija, a phase critical to the progress of one of the most powerful electric cars ever made.

The highly anticipated model was presented for the first time at the Guangzhou Motorshow, an important showing for the Lotus name which is now part of. the Chinese auto-giant Geely.

Lotus published footage of the car out on track, the first time automotive fans have seen the car rolling and having its performance tested.

Doused in a eye-catching yellow and black camouflage, dynamic camera shots capture the Evija pounding round in wet conditions at a wet private circuit. Lotus intends to test the car at a number of race circuits around Europe.

The prototypes will the cover hundred of thousands of miles through rigorous testing, as well as taking to public roads to examine how the Evija and all its 1,970hp would perform in the hands of the public.

To reassure customers, Lotus says that the production of the car will start next year. Until then, the British brand hopes to improve the car and does not hide its ambitions for the Evija to set new standards in the hypercar category. A stark warning for any competition...

    • Yeh, it's really peaked my interest. I wonder what Lotus has found in the battery performance that out performs the deficit in weight gain. 🤔

  • Looks strikingly similar to the Hennessy Venom, does it not?

    • It’s not surprising. The venom once started on a Lotus Exige chassis/coachwork.
