Here Is Your Chance To Own The Mustang From Tokyo Drift

Yes, that Mustang. The one that may or may not have a GTR motor under the hood

Remember Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift? Of course you do. It was a car that was seemingly designed to troll everyone. Muscle car guys hated it becaue the V8 was removed for a 2.6 liter Nissan straight six. JDM lovers hated it because how dare someone take the legend that is the RB26DETT and put it into something as heavy as a 60's muscle car. Personally I kind of love it. That taking what you have available and making something fast with it is really how hot rodding got started.

Well if you love this car or want to own a piece of movie history good news is at hand. Carlisle Auctions is selling one of the six Mustangs used in the film. What the listing does not feature is what motor is powering the unique Mustang. Of the six cars used for the film two were fitted with a much more conventional 430 cubic inch Windsor V8. While fitted with drift mods to allow for more sideways action than a conventional Mustang if the car for sale was one of these it would be something of a let down.

Sure a '67 Mustang with a 430 cubic inch 'Murican V8 would be sweet in its own right it would lose some of that charm that only a RB powered Mustang could provide. Of the six cars one was totaled, another calls Norway of all places home and one resides in the Volo Car Museum in Chicago. This particular Tokyo Drift Mustang last belonged to the Tasca Ford dealership. If the name Tasca sounds familiar to you, it should. Bob Tasca created the Cobra Jet package and was personal friends with the legend that was Carol Shelby.

I wonder what crazy motor I could swap into my BMW M3...

  • I'd buy it but put the engine in it deserves a ford V8

  • 430 cubic inch Windsors aren't conventional. They start out as 351w so 430 is a major bore and stroker kit engine. Interesting story behind the cars 👌

    • Very good point. I meant "conventional" as in a Ford V8 occupying a Mustang's engine bay as opposed to a JDM turbocharged straight 6.
