Ladies and gentlemen, I'm glad to be one of the first people to show you all the ins and outs of the new Ford Mustang SUV. Fresh out of Detroit, the Mach-E sets out to be just as thrilling, entertaining, and sporty as the current Mustang.
Models, Pricing, and Performance
The Mustang Mach-E features a variety of different trims. The first of which is the Select, which starts at $43,895. The specs for the Select are as follows: a mid 5 second 0-60 (with RWD), and 230 miles of range. Next in line is the Premium, which has a starting price of $50,600, with 300 miles of range and a mid 5 second 0-60 (with RWD). Next is the California Route 1, with a $52,400 starting price. This car has 300 miles of range, and a mid 6 second 0-60 (with RWD). Next is the GT, with a mid 3 second 0-60 (with AWD), but in return, you only get 235 miles of range. This performance model sets you off at 60,500. Finally, there's the First Edition, which starts at 59,900. This will be a limited edition version of the Mach-E will have 270 miles of range, with a mid 5 second 0-60. It will feature exclusive stitching, red brake calipers, and First Edition scuff plates.
As for most new cars, the Mach-E is all-electric. And I'll cut straight to the point, the maximum amount of range this car will get is 300 miles, which is a very healthy number. Some other healthy numbers are as follows: 459 horsepower (342 Kw) and 612 ft-lbs of torque (830 Nm). It is worth mentioning that these numbers will be for the Ford GT Performance Edition, which isn't available just yet. The performance figures for the current models aren't available yet.
Ford heavily emphasized that the new Mustang SUV will be easier to use than ever before. The Mach-E will use Ford's new infotainment system and will be the first to use it. Ford's latest system has plenty of new features that need to be pointed out, the first of which is the screen. The screen is vertical, which allows for a much cleaner interior. The main selling point of this screen, according to Ford, is that everything is one touch away. What this means is, when you go to your navigation screen, you don't need to exit the navigation screen to access your music. Everything will be present at once, which is really unique. Another significant change within the screen is the introduction to the cloud. In short, the cloud is what allows for real-time updates, and I think you can see where I a going with this. Navigation now displays real-time traffic data and live charging data (so you know where the newest and closest charging station is). The cloud also allows for over the air software updates for the screen, so you will now be able to have the latest infotainment system forever. Ford also notes that the Mach-E adapts to you, not the other way around. If the infotainment system notices you call our grandmother at 5 pm every evening on your way home, the system will encourage you to call her by pushing forward a notification. Perhaps most importantly, Ford mentioned that the Mach-E will have "hands-free driving capability", but they did not elaborate on that.
The Charging Network
Ford insisted on the fact that you don't need to worry about range, or how to get more of it. In North America alone, there are 12,500 charging stations, and that number is only going up. At these charging stations, they didn't mention how long a full charge is, Ford did mention that it only takes 10 minutes to get 47 miles of range. As you could have predicted, Ford will give you a Ford Mobile Charger you can use to charge your Mustang SUV at home.
So there you have it, the new Mustang SUV. I am truly happy to be one of the first people to write on this, and I'm also happy to say that this car won't be your normal SUV. It has the heart and soul of a Mustang, but it's just wearing some different clothes. I really think Ford nailed it with this one.
