Here's what a modern day Fiat 126 would look like as an EV and we love it
Is this the perfect rival to the Honda E?
The international design studio, MA-DE, has just shared some rendered images of what a modern-day fully electric Fiat 126 could look like and it is the perfect rival to Honda's E city car.
Dubbed the ‘fiat 126 vision’, this reimagination of the classic 126 is quite a thing to look at. This render keeps the original small shape of the 126 but has smoothed off some of the rougher edges by modernising it.
It was about time it had an update too, as the original 126 came out 48 years ago, making a 50 year revival a very attractive proposition. And don't forget, Fiat mad over four million of these little petrol powered cars, so it's pretty safe to say, an EV come-back would sell like hot cakes.
Now, the original Polski Fiat 126 came with three measly engine options; a 594 cc straight 2, a 652 cc straight 2 and last but not least, a powerful 704 cc straight 2. These engines didn't produce more than 23 hp but that didn't matter as the thing weighed about nine-tenths as much as a cow (600-ish-kg).
However, a new and improved Fiat 126, like this one, would be battery powered meaning you could have much more torque and horsepower. And it wouldn't need much more range than the Honda E if it's used as a city car.
Overall, it's a very promising render and hopefully it gets Fiat talking abouta a revival, but for now all we can do is wait.
