Here's what a modern-day Porsche 959 could look like

What do you think of it?

Have you ever wondered what a modern-day Porsche 959 from 1986 would look like? It's very difficult to work out how an 80s supercar would look in the year 2020 but this artist's impression gives us a pretty good idea as to how it would look.

As you can see and would expect, this design is based on the current generation of Porsche 911, the 992. Added to this new 911 is the iconic 959 rear wing which is unmistakably German. On top of that, a few lines have changed around the car and the front has been adapted to make it more modern.

What do you think of this? Does it work?

  • The 918 is the modern day 959.

Nice idea to graft on modern cues but doesn’t work for me.

  • Looks nice, but just bring back the old one!

  • I've always loved the styling of the original 959. Used to have a Hotwheels 959, and even that small thing amazed me with its proportions

  • Don't get me wrong, it's a nice render, but every time I see an "internet render" it's just based on the current design language. (no matter what type of car it is) If Porsche really was to build a new 959, they would have done it a bit different. Just like the 918, the 718, the Taycan and the Macan: it's all Porsche but each have their own distinctive details.

I think that's the difference between these renders and a real design team: It wouldn't be just a mashup between a 911 and a 959, it would be a new car.

    • The 959 was a 911 with a body kit designed to handle the mechanical mods.

    • I know, but that bodykit gave the old 959 a whole new identity. It doesn't look like a 911. This just feels like a 911 with a big rear wing.
