Look around the next time you’re out. Start to count them and you’ll soon run out of fingers. SUVs are everywhere. Because, somehow automakers have managed to convince millions of people that their bulbous shaped mommy-mobiles are a worthy purchase. So much so that damn near every premium and entry-level automaker offers one.

SUVs, especially in America are popular, insanely popular. Roughly 47% of all new vehicles sold in the United States are SUVs, and that number is projected to reach 84% by the end of 2022. This surge is so powerful the Ford have given up making cars in the US, and now only sell SUVs.

This is why supercar manufacturers such as Aston Martin, and Lamborghini are now adding SUVs to their lineups. And it's not like these new vehicles represent any cost savings to the consumer, the new Aston Martin DBX costs nearly $40,000 more than the entry-level Aston Martin Vantage. Furthermore, these Super-SUVs are usually more expensive than their sedan/coupe counterparts. With cars such as the Cullinan outpricing the Rolls Royce Ghost, upon which its based.

But doesn't this ruin the brand??!?

Many people bring this up when it comes to luxury/super SUVs. And it's a good point, because with rumors of Ferrari entering the SUV world it does seem like all this may dilute some of these allusive brand names. Because, I cannot envision James Bond driving around in Aston's new DBX. However, there is a very good reason as to why car enthusiasts should tolerate this supposed "ruination" of the supercar brands we love.

See while it is upsetting that the likes of Lamborghini and Aston Martin now make SUVs they provide a crucial tool for the automakers we love.

MONEY!!

Many companies such as Aston Martin have very little when it comes to money. So little that in previous models parts had to be sourced from Ford and Volvo to avoid spending money on development costs.

However, with the onslaught of super-SUVs these companies will begin to bring in a lot more money. As a result they will be able to develop bigger and better sports cars for us enthusiasts. Because while seeing a Lamborghini badge on a glorified Audi Q8 is painful, it's simply the medicine that we must now take to get our supercars.
