  • They shouldn't be in the same F1 tracks, no, but races should be disputed in a track! Precisely for the reason explained by Thomas Schneider. You are wrong, it's not “poof” and FE circus disappears: it takes time to prepare and time to dismantle, with enormous inconvenience for the citizens of the town where the event is held.

I am Italian, and I’ve read plenty of negative comments online of citizens of Rome infuriated by the Formula E. Nobody will ever want another Formula E event in town.

Tracks aren't all like Nürburgring or Le Mans, there are plenty of minor tracks around that would be perfect also for the Formula E. Not necessarily the same ones used for Formula 1. And I bet it will also be cheaper and less of a headache organising events in tracks, rather than in towns.

Corners, you say? How hard would it be to create artificial chicanes in a track? In Italy, we have the Rally of Monza which is held on the straight of the Monza circuit, and cars are rally cars, which are not properly quick as an F1 or FE. Yet, they’ve always been doing it, using an artificial layout.

And the argument that they shouldn't be racing in tracks because they are not Formula 1… Well, also Formula 2, Endurance and a plethora of other categories race in tracks, and no-one compares them to Formula 1 cars.

In short, Formula E Cars are becoming quicker and better each year, and they deserve to grow. This is a natural step.

  • I understand your point, Jack, but: How far away from one of these street race tracks do you live? I loved watching the Swiss E-Prix on 22 June 2019 and would have liked it as a one-day or maybe one-weekend event. But it's not. It's a one-month thing easily, with streets blocked off, half of the pavement blocked off, streets that need to be converted, traffic islands demolished and rebuilt later, and it creates huge traffic jams throughout. I work close to what was the circuit of Bern and drive around it 4 times a day. Even one and a half weeks later, there still are obstructions. Because of all this disadvantages for the people living in the area, by now even the Formula E lovers hate it. The government of Bern will never ever agree to host the event anymore.

Here's my blog post about the Swiss E-Prix 2019 in Bern in German if anyone's interested: petrolhead.ch/ferien-freizeit/veranstaltungen/swiss-e-prix-2019-elektro-bolliden-zischen-durch-bern/

  • There must be a middle ground, surely. Tracks that facilitate more traiditional racing, but not the mega-expensive tracks of F1. Also, most tracks could probably have configurations that fit Formula-E, if the full track doesn't.

  • To be fair, all the street circuits they use has a lot corners and low speed sections for regain of the battery. That’s also part of the reason they didn’t use the full Monaco circuit. The batteries aren’t currently powerful enough for high speed tracks

  • I'm new to formula e so pardon my ignorance. They are so quiet I think people would fall asleep on a wider spread out track.
