Hertz is selling off over 180,000 rental vehicles by the end of the year
Come one! Come all! Come get your used car from the house of ill repute!
Buying a used rental car is a tricky gamble. If you're like me, every single rental I've ever driven is worse for wear after it's been in my possession. I'm not even talking about the things that happen to it that I CAN control. Ever hit a duck on the freeway in a rental Versa? It's quack-tacular.
Where the hell could you rent a M4?! Apparently in Florida and Arizona. I'd have guess Las Vegas and nowhere else. Image via Hertz screenshot.
Everyone's favorite Mustang and Corvette renter is in dire straights. As reported by Jalopnik and Carscoops, Hertz "shall dispose of at least 182,521 lease vehicles between June 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020" due to bankruptcy. If being one of the larger used car sales lots in the middle of a pandemic couldn't be the worst part, they're also on the hook for $650 million owed to lenders.
The low mileage stuff is more my speed (literally)... some people can do a lot of damage in one thousand miles though. Image via Hertz screenshot.
Selling over 180-thousand cars in less than six months time sounds like quite the ordeal. I hadn't even thought about how many cars Hertz owns, but apparently they own around a half million cars in their fleet.
This could be a great time to boost your own fleet if our current global situation isn't already putting you out of business. Maybe it's time for a questionable history daily driver to enter your life? I've always been a bit leery about owning a rental car, especially since our own Three Amigos - in a previous employment - detailed how they're quite possibly the fastest cars in the world.
There looks to be some 'good deals' if used rentals is your sort of risk-taking activity. There are a couple C7 Z06 Corvettes for sale, around one hundred cars under $10,000, but it's far more fun to see what is the most expensive used cars they have for sale. Anyone car for a used 2020 BMW M4 with a gentle 4,000 miles on the odometer?
