HISTORIC MICRA CUP WEEKEND AT CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada – Nissan Micra Cup racer Valerie Limoges made history in Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Saturday, becoming the first woman to win a round of the series.
Limoges raced a clean race in tricky wet conditions and, although she didn't cross the line first, she was promoted to the win after rivals were penalized for shortcutting the circuit in the wet conditions.
Once the penalties were levied, Normand Boyer and Kevin King rounded out the podium. For King, the third-place finish allowed him to close the points gap to championship leader, and 2015 and 2017 champ Olivier Bedard.
Sunday's race was won by 2017 novice champion Jake Exton, claiming his first victory, after earlier earning his first pole position.
Second place in the race went to Olivier Bedard, who drove up from eighth and briefly held the lead before Exton, on a charge, took the top spot back.
Valerie Limoges rounded out the podium in third in what was the 50th ever Micra Cup race.
Bedard’s main championship rival, Kevin King, finished in seventh allowing Bedard to claw back the points King put on him in the first race of the weekend. Bedard now leads by 86 points with just one race weekend remaining.
