These old Holdens are getting a bit rare now, especially pristine examples like this one!
The Holden FE was the second generation australian produced Holden, with a whole new body style compared to the venerable FJ.
Running gear was much the same, with the 132.5ci "Grey" in-line 6, and a 3-speed manual gearbox with column mounted shift. There were some engine improvements over the FJ though, including bigger valves and a higher compression ratio of 6.8:1, increasing power from 45 kW (60 hp) to 53 kW (71 hp).
They were produced from 1956 to 1958, and some were assembled in New Zealand from 1957.
Electrics were much improved from the 6 volt FJ with a whole new 12 volt system.
After a production run of 155,161 vehicles the entire FE range was replaced by the Holden FC series in May 1958.
TIP : You can pick an FE from the later model facelift by the front indicator lights - they are round on the FE and elongated on the FC!
Here's a link to another FE, a Ute..
And to a really nice custom FC! (See the different indicators?)
