Holden vs Ford vs Mazda - Who is the king of the Aussie dragstrip?

There's been a lot of talk around Drivetribe lately about Ford vs Holden, LS vs Barra but the one place where all bets are settled is the dragstrip. When it comes to talented engine builders and drivers, Australia really is 'the lucky country'. So we though we'd showcase three of the fastest cars ever to throw down in Australia and let you, the reader, settle the debate.

Jeremy 'Jet' Martins' VB Commodore

This VB Commodore was destined for a life of 2am Maccas runs and single pegger carpark burnouts until Jeremy Martin saw potential and purchased it for $1,000. The car underwent an incredible transformation since its Facebook Marketplace days and now packs 4,000 bhp.

A methanol-fed 526 ci Pro Line Billet 481X engine wasn't quite crazy enough so Jeremy added a pair of 98mm Precision turbos. This insane setup has seen the car put down a quarter mile time of 5.981 @ 246.35mph!

Steve Bazzina's XW Falcon

There's no shortage of tough XWs in Australia but few are as insane as this 427ci twin-turbo Windsor-powered quarter mile monster. Forced induction is taken care of by a pair of 88mm Precision Pro snails and the combination has been enough to see a run of 6.84 @ 208mph.

Somewhat remarkably, the big Falcon is still street-driven often and still wears its leaf spring setup proudly. Steve confessed that he has such a soft spot for the Aussie icon that he has owned 43 different XW's in the past.

Sam Sadek's Mazda RX3

Once rotaries get into your blood it's hard to ever imagine driving anything else - that's certainly been the case for Sam Sadek who has a handful of lightning-fast RX3's, built by the legendary PAC Performance in Sydney.

Sam's son Jay regularly pilots his old man's 20B powered BOSS RX3, as the father/son team work on continually increasing the boost and chasing down a world record. Their current PB is an lightning-fast 6.77@197mph!
