Home Racing Sims Part 2:

Taking it the next level.

My first article covered the basics of getting into the home racing sim market. It gave a few good entry points for wheels, seats, and basic gear. Many people have been asking me a couple of questions:

1: What else is there?

2: I don't want to piece together a setup. Where can I just buy a complete, ready to go one?

So, today, we're going to deep dive a bit further into the sim world, and we'll look at a few advanced setups, ranging from a "basic" $750, ready-to-go setup, up to setups that are so hardcore, that real F1 Drivers use them to train on.

Let's begin!

I don't want to build a kit from scratch, I just want to get a set and go!

For some, either they don't have the time or the desire to construct their own kit, piece by piece. Many, just prefer to have everything work out of the box, with no intervention on their part. Well, if you don't mind spending a few extra bones for some bloke in a warehouse to put together a kit for you, and send it. Here's a few options.

COUCH RACER XBOX/PLAYSTATION/PC SIMULATOR PACKAGE - RicmoTech ($749.90 / $919.85 w/TH8A Shifter Included.)

COUCH RACER XBOX/PLAYSTATION/PC SIMULATOR PACKAGE - RicmoTech ($749.90 / $919.85 w/TH8A Shifter Included.)

Here's a simple, yet solid, full setup. This is the Couch Racer Sim Package from RicmoTech. It includes:

Wheel Stand - All your gear mounts to the sturdy wheel stand from Next Level Racing. The stand has adjustments to position everything just right yet can easily fold away when not in use.

Wheel, Pedals, and optional Shifter - Depending on if you choose the PS4/PC set or the Xbox One/PC set, you will receive one of the following sets: For Playstation you get the T300 Racing Wheel, which offer an Alcantara grip, several realistic features, and weighs in at a hefty 25 pounds. The wheel also features paddle shifters and a myriad of buttons to map game functions and navigate through the menus. If you choose the Xbox Set, you'll get the Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel, which is almost identical to the PS4 set. Both sets also come with the T3PA pedals. (Which include the clutch.) And, for an additional $169.95, they will throw in the TH8A Shifter with either set.

Combine it with a comfy chair, and you're ready to race. Buy it Here:

GAME RACER XBOX/PLAYSTATION/PC SIMULATOR PACKAGE - RicmoTech (Starting at $1399.90)

GAME RACER XBOX/PLAYSTATION/PC SIMULATOR PACKAGE - RicmoTech (Starting at $1399.90)

Can't find a chair in your house you like? Or, you want the right chair for the job. Either way, that means you'll want to step up to a kit that includes a comfortable racing chair. That's brings us to another offering from RicmoTech. The "GAME RACER XBOX/PLAYSTATION/PC SIMULATOR PACKAGE". This kit offers the same wheel/pedal/optional shifter choices as the Couch Racer above, but instead of a simple stand for the wheel and pedals, you'll get the GT Ultimate V2 racing frame. This sturdy frame will mount all your gear and seat you comfortably for hours of racing. The seat reclines and has sliders to get you in just the right position for optimal control. If you are tight on space then this chassis fits the bill perfectly since the seat can be disconnected from the wheel stand and the stand can be folded away for storage, leaving only the sharp looking chair.

This set will run you a bit more at $1,399.90 + $169.95 for optional TH8A Shifter. Configure it here:

Okay, okay.... I got a comfy seat and great controls! What else is there?

DOF Reality Motion Simulator Platform H3 ($2,135)

DOF Reality Motion Simulator Platform H3 ($2,135)

See that, above this text? Yes... It's another racing chair. You've seen a bunch of them by now. So, what makes this one special? How about the fact that it delivers 2 dimensional movements (Pitch + Roll + rear traction loss/Yaw). The H3 model is designed to move not only the seat, but, all simulator controls: steering wheel, joystick, pedals, throttles, etc. When you move, everything moves! (Note: They sell only the platform, so you'll need to purchase the seat, wheel, pedal, gear shift etc, separately.)

Next Level Racing Motion Platform v3 ($2,999)

Next Level Racing Motion Platform v3 ($2,999)

"Well, crap Cam!" You say. "I already bought a nice racing seat after the last article, and now you tell me, there's motion seats!"

Don't worry. They have add-on units for all the folks that already have a seat and frame that they enjoy. This bad boy, is the Next Level Racing Motion Platform v3, by (Ahem) Next Level Racing. The Next Level Racing Motion Platform is designed specifically just for the seat to move by being a go-between of your frame and seat, so it adapts to almost any existing frame or cockpit. And, don't let this little guy fool you by his size. He puts out some impressive Gs. You might have chuckled earlier in the article, seeing that the Game Racer Package above, had a seat with seat belts. Now, you know why.

Cool, but I want even more! What if money is no object?

As, I said before in the last article, really the only limits are your budget and imagination. However, if you lack the latter, and have plenty of the former, here's the top of line, elite of pre-made, ready-to-run, racing simulators. Hold on to your butts! (And, your wallets!)
