Honda City is still the king of its segment : know why!
I didn't like any of the newly launched sedan's look. But I shouldn't have judged a book by its cover.
In this article I will tell you about the variants of the newly launched Honda City and which one is the best variant to buy and why?! But before that let’s have a little intro about the car.
For the last two decades, Honda city has been being regarded as a luxurious mid size sedan by the Indian consumers and it has created some good sales figures of itself which even helped the manufacturer a lot to establish themselves. Recently the 5th generation (actually 7th) of the Honda City was launched which is now available in both petrol and diesel engine options. You can opt for manual transmission or CVT in the petrol powered engines whereas the diesel engine only comes with a 6 speed manual transmission.
Honda has announced 3 variants of this model V, VX and ZX. The base variant V has its price-tag starting from 10.9 lacs where as the top variant ZX has a starting price-tag of 13.15 lacs.
Base variant(V) Price: 10.89 lacs (Petrol MT)
When we looked at the brochure of the Honda City, we sometimes felt like the base variant V is the best variant you can buy right now, as there is a really long list of useful features in this variant, so hold on your patience to read it.
Take a deep breath and gooooo
The V variant comes with practical features like ISOFIX anchorage, multi angle rear camera with guidelines, 4 rear parking sensors, VSA with electronic stability and traction control, Hill start assist, Tyre pressure monitoring system, Day/night IRVM, rear defogger, dual horn, LED DRLs and tail lamps, projector headlamps, front fog lamps, 15” alloy wheels, 8” touchscreen display, steering mounted audio & telephone controls that comes with illuminated switches, push start/ stop function, smart electrical trunk with keyless release, auto up/down Dr. side power window with pinch guard, follow me home headlamps, power adjustable and foldable ORVMs, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, telescopic and tilt adjustable steering wheel, driver seat height adjustment, cruise control, front and rear foldable centre armrest and I will just put an etcetera here.
So the base variant consists most of the practical features you expect from a car at this price point (Actually I expected less features in this variant, so I was literally amazed to see this). This variant seems to be a perfect choice if you can rely on the safety of dual airbags and sunroof type things don’t really matter to you.
Mid Variant (VX ) Price: 12.25 lacs (Petrol MT)
The next variant is called VX which costs 1.36 lacs more than the previous variant V and comes with some more practical/ premium features like side and curtain airbags, auto dimming IRVM, one touch electric sunroof with tilt function and pinch guard, two tone 16” diamond cut alloy wheels, digital tachometer and speedometer, rear parking sensor proximity display, steering scroll selector wheel and meter control switch. So if you want to go for a bit premium purchase then this one is for you. For me, it felt like a value for money price increment, doesn’t feel “Wow” like the previous variant but seems to be a good deal. You can tell us your thoughts about this variant in the comments.
Top Variant (ZX) Price: 13.14 lacs (Petrol MT)
Mostly people (including us) avoid or recommend avoiding the top variant of a car as it contains just some fancy features and it is usually priced a bit much higher. So it doesn’t make sense to go for the top variants. But here in case of Honda City, it is just opposite of the mainstream ideas. The ZX variant has a price-tag starting at 13.15 lacs which is 89k costlier than the previous variant VX. In this price gap it provides features like Lane-watch camera, Full LED headlamps, LED turn signal in headlamp, automatic folding mirrors, rear sunshade, all power windows with pinch guard and auto up/down, remote window and sunroof open/close, ambient lighting and leather upholstery. Now it varies from man to man about what their choices are, but for me if you are looking for a luxurious, premium sedan around 13-14 lacs then this variant of Honda city might be the best option out there in the market.
Look, we have talked about a few other cars of this segment too, and we never experienced this type of great feature distribution before. The Honda City seems to be only vehicle out there where you don’t need to worry about purchasing the best value for money or practical variant of it because all 3 variants offer a really value for money and practical package to you. So if you are thinking to buy a Honda City then just think about your priority, usage and budget and go for the variant that matches your budget. We know that it is not attainable for a lot of people but if you can attain it then probably you won’t think about purchasing any other rival products.
