Honda Has A New Guinness World Record for the Fastest Accelerating Lawnmower
Last Month, a Guinness World Record was earned by Honda for “Fastest Acceleration 0-100 mph for a Lawnmower(Prototype)”. The record is 0-100 mph in 6.285 seconds. The time is official and was confirmed by a Guinness World Records adjudicator. This world record was achieved with the help of stunt driver Jess Hawkins. The location was the Dekra Lausitzring, a racecourse in Schipkau, Germany. The lawnmower had to complete two runs in opposite directions to measure its acceleration and the average of the two runs is the official record.
You must be wondering how does this lawn mower have a 0-100 mph time like a supercar? well, it is powered by a 1.0 litre 4 cylinder engine from Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP motorcycle producing a 189+ horses (confirmed it at Honda’s website), also it is very light at approximately 140 kgs.
For Mean Mower V2 to comply with Guinness World Records regulations it had to comply on two points. The first it has to look like a lawnmower, which it does because the body belongs to a Honda HF 2622 Lawn Tractor. The second it also has to have the ability to mow the lawns, other than being fast. It does properly mow, it has a modified cutting deck, powered by an electric motor and has carbon fibre blades that cut grass as much as any other mower.
Honda did also have a top speed test to see how fast is the Mean Mover V2 compared to its predecessor. The first gen Mean Mower topped out at 116.87 mph, the Mean Mower V2 achieved a top speed of 150.99 mph. That is faster than most hot hatches.
I have just realised why I want a house with a big yard. Because I want the excuse of cutting grass with mean mower, when in reality I am just driving very fast. I wonder if I can practice drifting with it?
