Honda S2000 set to be revived according to sources close to Honda
Promising news at last.
We've had rumors. We've had hopes. We've had faith. But this here, this is something else. This is the most promising news we've heard in regards to the S2000 reveal.
According to Forbes, the S2000 is damn near coming to fruition. According to these sources, the rebirthing of the S2000 would be on its 25th anniversary, 2024.
The sources further go on to spill news that we dream of. The S2000 is strongly said to use the Civic Type R's powertrain, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine which makes 320 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The engine would be tweaked to employ rear-wheel-drive, and possibly have the power bumped up to 350 horsepower. The 6-speed manual from the Type R is expected to be available as well.
Things get even better when taking into account that the new S2000 is said to weigh under 3,000 pounds due to the use of carbon fiber and aluminum. Body proportions would remain mostly the same otherwise, and will most likely look a lot like the 20th anniversary S2000 Concept Honda showed off at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon.
And while none of this is official, it surely isn't coming from the man next door; this information comes from a source that is close to Honda. And as if that wasn't promising enough, it would match with Honda's plan to appeal to younger buyers. Honda appears to be on a mission to do just that, as they chose to debut the 2022 Civic Prototype on Twitch; a platform used primarily by Honda's target audience. A fun, fast, and affordable convertible fits right into Honda's plan to attract younger buyers, further encouraging the likelihood of the S2000 coming back.
