Honda went full Yob and wrapped all their cars gold in Australia
Honda is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the Australian market in style, or complete lack of it- your mileage may vary. As the 50th anniversary is often referred to as the 'Golden' one, Honda decided to go full Essex, and wrap their entire range in a shiny gold colour.
The range of gold wrap products really covers all categories and while most look like they just left a shoddy Essex tuner shop, I need to regrettably confess that the Gold and Black Civic Type-R has grown on me... It's not just the cars that got the gold treatment, the designed-and-built-in-Australia HRU19 Buffalo Premium Lawnmower or the tiny EU22i generator didn't escape with their dignity intact either.
Bikes got the wrap treatment too, the CBR100RR Superbike, CRF450L enduro and CRF50F kids were all turned into the shiny gold bullets. I've to admit I'm not that much of a bike guy but to me they actually look quite nice.
You know what? After a while of writing this and looking at the photos (especially the hero shot below), this started to grow on me. Does this mean I'm a secret chav or does this colour just look damn good, shining in the sun amongst the Australian outback?
If, just like me, you started liking these rather polarising wraps and think of picking up a gold Civic, you are going to be pretty disappointed. Because Honda doesn't intend on selling a single one of these, intending it purely as a fun marketing/celebration action.
Honda Australia managing director Mr Hiroyuki Shimizu said the following; "We thought about how we could celebrate our birthday, and our unique diversity in a bold and fun way. I mean, who has ever seen a golden mower or generator before? And “We’re looking forward to showcasing these amazing golden products around the country throughout 2019, so stay tuned for more information on that”
I'm not even in Australia but I'm quite tuned, well done Honda you've got my attention with this one.
