Having set the standards for some of the most affordable automobiles to date with their Model T and its successor Model A, Ford wanted their third of cars to be something truly special. The Model B consisted of the Ford 1932-34 models, and where some of the first Ford Models to be fitted with a flathead V-8.

Needless to say the model has more has stood the test of time, with many hot rod enthusiasts dreaming of owning such a vintage model. The 1934 model gained notoriety after being the infamous car in which Bonnie and Clyde were gunned down inside.

Fast forward to present day Great Britain and the car still holds a special heart for many. None more so than roofer Ashley Minter, who has become the proud owner of a custom 1934 Ford. His father was the man responsible for his love of hot rods, which has seen Ashley slowly but surely find his way to his dream car.

As youngster, his father was an avid hot rod and drag racing fan, and owner of his own rod too. Ever since a young age he was raised with hot rods and drag racings as his own passion too. This still resonates with him today, as he admits he always wanted and old school car, which cannot be said for others his age.

Through his teens, Ashley worked alongside a top fuel racing team and continued to have aspirations of owning a hot rod one day. Couple this with his father’s strong influence, and Ashley admits “I guess it was only a matter of time when it would happen.

So why choose the 1934 model? There are plenty of hot rods out there, and to go as far back as a 1934 Ford Coupe may be seen as an unusual move. Yet Ashley has a perfect reason for his love of this particular model,

He also admits that this has influenced the style of his custom job. The pro street style is something that has always been an allure to Ashley, and he cites the style of the big wheels up front that contrast well with the smaller rear wheels as a big influence over his own design plans.

A lot of hot rod shows and drag racing events I would go to I would always take great interest in looking at these type of cars again most would be supercharged so it always influenced me.

Ashley's determination to own a fully customised hot rod is very inspiring. As a roofer, his job is by no means an easy task and he tells us that he worked throughout the week to pay for the costs, spending Sundays and the evenings to sort out things for his project.

He built the engine with his friend Lee and received help from Alders Automotives to rebuild the transmission. The Hot Rod House installed the exhaust and steering, with a close friend also helping with electrical and wiring.

A modern interpretation of a classic model is never and easy custom job to pull off, yet Ashley has managed it then some. The amazing work is a testament to his abilities and passion for hot rods, which has resulted in a truly amazing job.
