How a CLASSIC 911 can create new opportunities in life

From the skyscrapers of New York City to the snowy mountains of Switzerland. This Porsche has seen it all.

How it all started

Back in 2001, Marcel was able to buy the car he grew up in from his own parents. It was a green BMW E30 325i convertible from 1990. To this day, that car is still in his possession and has been, as one can imagine, treated with love and care. It looks and drives like a new car. He didn't know it back then, but that green E30 was going to determine what classic Porsche he was going to get.

WELCOME TO THE USA

After working here in Switzerland for a good amount of time, he was offered a job in the US back in 2014. Once there he immediately gained equally petrol-fueled friends and a lot of them were proud owners of the classic Stuttgarter's. His friends, wanting to share the love of Porsche's, let him have a go in their own cars. You already know what happened.

Marcel and his classic car bucket-list just got a new member (totaling 50 cars). So he stopped searching for a BMW 2002, the car he originally intended to buy, and started scouring Craigslist, eBay, and lots of other sites for classic 911's. And then he found it. A completely stock Moss-Green G-Modell Porsche, waiting to be picked up in Atlanta. The pictures weren't great and the description wasn't detailed. But he knew it had to be the one. Especially knowing that back at home in Switzerland an E30 was desperately waiting for a green friend. Without thinking twice he called one of his friends, an air-cooled specialist, asking him if he'd like to be part of this adventure. Once he got his approval he bought a one-way ticket from New York to Atlanta.

HELLO PEACH STATE!

The Porsche was located about an hour's drive out of Atlanta. Marcel couldn't wait to see what he was getting into. Once there he found out that the owner, a retired Marine fighter jet pilot, of the 911 was in a, let's say, special situation. He was in the process of getting divorced. So that meant he had to sell his beauty. That was great news for Marcel. It meant he could get a great deal on it. After noticing that the owner was really into keeping the car clean and well maintained (he followed Marcel and his friend around the car and cleaned off every fingerprint they left), he had to buy it. Well, we wouldn't be writing this article if that did not happen. So...

Back up north

The 1000 Miles back home were flawless and enjoyable. They even stopped in little Switzerland. Now that Marcel was a Porsche owner himself, he was able to join different events and meet new Petrol-heads. He attended Driven to America twice, the Radwood Festival, and even organized their own little trip to Newport, which they called Newport 500. Fueled with unbelievable memories he made his way back to Switzerland.

Mountains, Coffee, and flat sixes

Once back home in Switzerland, he immediately wanted what he had in the US. A group of people that loved their cars and wanted to share their passion. So together with a couple of friends, Marcel founded @flatsixsyndicate. A place where air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts could come together and have an awesome time drinking coffee, driving their cars, and talking everything Porsche. That message spread so well, that after a year the club counted 50 members and 60 air-cooled Stuttgarter's.

GREENBODY911

It took Marcel a while to realize that green was actually not such a special color in the Porsche world. Green was the favorite color of Ferdinand Porsche and there were a lot of green cars on the road.

But by the time he had realized that he had already created an Instagram account called @greenbody911 and it was flourishing. What's that Instagram page about? Well, the name kind of gives it away. Everything green with a gold, red, and black badge is welcome.

Moral of the story

Owning a classic 911 connected Marcel with people and their stories all over the world. He's now got friends from Switzerland to New Zealand.

Thank you, Ferdinand.
