How do you pick a team to support
I hope i'm not the only one that can never make up my mind on loving or hating a team
F1 is a difficult sport to die hard follow one team till you die. If your a fan of another sport soccer, baseball, hockey, football, basketball, its very easy to be a fan. I'm from Tampa the Rays are a laughing stock of an organization and my dad is from Brooklyn so i was pushed to follow greatness in the Yankees. In doing so i hate every other team Yanks all the way no other way about that. I could sit here and tell you my teams for everything else but this is a car blog so just take my word i have justified reasons to support the teams i support.
Which brings me to F1. What are the parameters to say this is the team i support? Maybe in Europe it is easier because you support the team that comes from your country? But that gets complicated because Red Bull is from Austria but all team operations work out of England. If that was the case Haas would be my favorite team, which they kind of are but if it was not for the American heritage... honestly i would not care for them all that much.
What is more important, heritage or being the new boy? Would you rather see a titan of industry such as Mercedes with there German efficiency be the top, or Williams which was a guy in a shed who made his dream come true? I have the upmost respect for the "little" teams like Williams, Force India, And Haas. It was a guy who loved racing and invested in his dream. I tell you what i ever make it rich one day that will be the goal. I would bankrupt my self to be the owner of a F1 team, just to be involved mounting tires i don't care i want to be involved. but then i think man if i could ever work for Ferrari or Mclaren. The racing heritage of those two teams gives me goosebumps. Going to work and walking into either one of those factorys every day would be the greatest thing i could ever imagine.
What about colors? does team livery make or break it for you? I can tell you the Pepto Bismal livery really turns me off Force India. PLEASE DO NOT THROW STONES THRU MY WINDOW...but i don't like the Papaya Orange mixed with the blue. I know its heritage but it just looked better on the old cars it does not work on this generation. And i think they over did the blue accents. The Vodafone chrome cars where Mclarens best looking cars i adored them. Ferraris red this year took a minute to grow on me but i love it now. The deep scarlet with no white and no big ghastly logos on the side create such a clean look. Don't like Renault. I miss the gloss almost purple color that Red Bull used to have. This new matte is shit. Merc is clean and powerful love those. Williams beautiful heritage. Toro Rosso... Eh. Haas is nothing special but clean and orderly. And defiantly the prettiest car on the grid Sauber. The Alfa Romeo livery is perfect elegant clean classy beautiful amazing.
And my girl friend this is the stupidest reason what road cars the manufactures make. Motorsport is awesome for the reason as a consumer we can get closer to our heros then in any other sport. You can go and rent a F1 car for the day and feel how the car performs on these world class GP circuits. Driving cars that share the same badge as our favorite teams there is nothing else like that in sport. I can just imagine getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari my mind will instantly go "look at me i'm Sebastian Vettel." I would honestly buy either a Mercedes or an Alfa over all the other lux brands out there just because of there ties to F1. But how much does the road cars affect our decision on who to root for on a Sunday? For instance for me the best car on the market right now is the 720s. But i'm honestly a Ferrari fan. So if i had the money would i buy a 488 the car that i know is not as good just because of who makes it? Or would i buy the 720 because it is better, but would defiantly have me rooting for Mclaren on a Sunday because i drive one?
I really don't know if anyone else goes thru as much complications on picking a team as i do but it really is frustrating. Let me know what you guys think if you have the same problems i do or you do have a die hard team you follow.
