Once I started making movie customs, I got the idea to build il Tempo Gigante, the hero race car from the stop-motion classic Flåklypa/Pinchcliffe Grand Prix. I'd watched it dozens of times as a little kid, and I just had to have it parked in Project Screentime.

Hot Wheels doesn't have much in the way of convertibles from the 30s, but they do have this.

It started life as an Auburn 852 (the 1997 casting, not the sought-after 1978)

So, I drilled it, stripped the paint, sawed off the fenders, painted the whole thing gold, then started greebling like it was going out of style. This included new fenders made out of clamshell package, metal wire side pipes, heat shrink cable sleeves, a staple for an antenna, and lots of little glass beads for bulbs.

Might add more detail in back, but I think this is good enough to start showing off.

  • Fun fact: It was this short film that was the main influence behind a young Cristien Von Koeniggsegg's dreams of being a creator of super fast cars.... As so he said.
