The Idea And Recruitment
I planned to attend Monterey Car Week again after having attended last year; but I wanted to do it right. So I recruited fellow ambassador Royce Rumsey, who was the best of the best when it came to photography and California. I was setting up interviews in advance and needed a videographer. Royce was available for most events but he in turn recruited Ashe Cole to fill in when he could not. After securing access to the events and reserving a hotel and flights, it was time to run a preliminary check on the area.
Scouting Out The Area
My wife and I headed over to California from Ft. Lauderdale and drove from Monterey to Napa pin pointing important spots along the way. This, however, turned into an epic adventure! We rented a Mustang GT, drove the newly opened Big Sur, went hot air ballooning in Sonoma and tasted wine at Opus One!
A Visit To Drivetribe Headquarters
Not long after our return, we were up and away again! This time our destination was London and my ultimate destination, to meet the people behind one of the most successful digital automotive community platforms, Drivetribe! I was not expecting yet, another adventure!
Monterey Car Week
After our return from London, I was back on the plane, this time to meet up with Royce in San Jose California. The following is how we tackled Monterey
Day 1 - Wednesday August 22nd 2018 (CARMEL MISSION CLASSIC//THE LITTLE CAR SHOW)
We headed off to Carmel for breakfast and then headed to the Mission Classic!

We drove around Carmel for a bit, don't remember if we ate or not and then we went to the Little Car Show.

We ate well that night. BBQ at the Smoking Pig.
Day 2 - Thursday August 23rd 2018 (PEBBLE BEACH TOUR D'ELEGANCE)
We have breakfast and then camp out at various locations along the Pacific Coast Highway to get shots of the cars participating in the Pebble Beach Tour D'Elegance (future post, will update). After, we drive around Carmel for a bit and then part ways. I am scheduled to meet up with a friend and Royce has a commitment to attend to. On my way to meet my friend around the Quail area, I lose GPS etc. In my attempt to find him I end up crashing a high profile party. I immediately invoke Parley which lands me an interview for the very next day!
Day 3 - Friday August 24th 2018 (THE QUAIL // LAGUNA SECA RACEWAY)
We have breakfast (now when I say we have breakfast, I'm talking a coffee and a croissant) then we head over to The Quail!

Day 4 - Saturday August 25th 2018 (ARIEL NOMAD SHOOT//EXOTICS ON CANNERY ROW)
We wake up early and this time have the whole crew with us (Myself, Royce Rumsey, Ashe Cole and her brother Pat). We head over to Carmel to pick up the Ariel Nomad lent to us from my friend Jesse Kenealy of Ariel North America! Then we head over to 17 mile drive and shoot all morning.

During The Shoot We Land Another Interview!
After the shoot, we head back to the hotel to offload some content and then I head back to cover the exotics on cannery row.

What a nightmare trying to get to this place literally hours just to move a couple of miles. But it was worth it!

Day 5 - Sunday August 26th 2018 (PEBBLE BEACH CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE)
We grab a quick breakfast and park at Carmel to catch a bus to the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. The indoor garage is empty except for these two cars!

The day ends with an arduous run up a long steep hill to catch the last bus back to our car in Carmel. Royce and I return to the hotel to offload content and I bid adieu early the next morning to return to southern Florida.
The real adventure was the work ahead of me with post production of loads of content. Luckily I had the assistance of fellow Ambassador, Ben Koenig, until I had the ability to process on my own.
I feel that this trailblazing initiative has set the bar for future coverage of events. I certainly couldn't have accomplished any of this without the collaborative efforts of my fellow ambassadors and those who have supported our content.
